Rich Johnson

Rich Johnson is an avid fly-fisher and is known for his expertise in fly tying, fly fishing, and his long-time involvement with Alaska Fly Fishers. Born and raised in Anchorage Alaska, he has spent his adult life prowling local waters and learning as much as possible about the art and craft of fly fishing.
Rich has taught fly fishing, casting, and fly tying for over 40 years through the Alaska Fly Fishers and various other venues. Passing on his knowledge is something he is passionate about.
As a professional portrait photographer, Rich has the opportunity to bring his skills, and equipment, to his fly-fishing world, capturing images of the beautiful natural world we all fish in, as well as some really nice fish pictures. He has used his photography for years to create images for fly tying instructional literature. If you are looking for a narrative about a person who combines both photography and fly fishing, it will be Rich Johnson.

Lance Hawkins

In Memoriam: Lance Hankins
Lance arrived in Alaska in the mid-80’s and met Rich shortly after settling in Anchorage. It didn’t take long for them to discover they shared a mutual love of fly fishing, photography, and fish of all kinds. It only took a couple fishing trips and some common involvement in local fishery events early on for them to become fast friends, and dedicated fishing buddies for the next 30 plus years.
When not actually fishing, trips were spent discussing all aspects of fly fishing, from fishing techniques and gear to fly patterns to the politics of local fisheries. Even off the river, many hours were spent together bouncing ideas and concepts off each other. Lance’s sharp intelligence and unique perception meshed well with Rich’s enthusiasm and brought balance to the relationship.
2 Guys Fly Fishing.net is an outcome of years of those discussions as both saw this site as an opportunity to share their personal knowledge and experience when it comes to fly fishing in Alaska.
We lost Lance on March 14, 2024 – Rest in peace, my “Brother from another Mother”.
